Broken Bay Constructions has completed two major building projects on two of our Northern Beaches homes in recent years. The fact that we keep coming back to Gary is a testament to his professionalism and the quality of his work. We lived in the homes through both renovations and much to our delight, there wasn’t a single day the building site wasn’t left in tidy order or that Gary and his team didn’t respect our homes as if they were their own. Not only were we impressed, so were our neighbours and our family who, following our fantastic experience with Gary, also engaged him to complete their own building projects. You might find other builders whose quotes are cheaper but rest assured, they know what their work is worth.

We have used Broken Bay Constructions on four different occasions over the past seven years. We first met Gary and his wife Linda through the children at school and came to know them as genuine and honest people. We arranged for several quotations for a major renovation to our Newport home and selected Gary to do the work not solely on price, but having known him outside his company first.
The renovation involved over six months of work and over several levels of the house. Gary was part of our daily lives and he made every effort to reduce the impact on us during the time. As with any renovation we encountered several unforeseeable issues which Gary guided us through options and detailed all cost. We were incredibly happy with the finished product. We engaged Gary again soon after for a small renovation to an investment property which again was a no fuss, on time and at the quoted rate project. In 2006 we asked Gary to assist with work on our new home and most recently in the past few months on another renovation project. In total we have spent $600-700,000 dollars with Broken Bay Constructions and will use them again if the need arises. Taking a totally blank canvas of a vacant block and building a substantial custom designed house for our family of 6 in nine months was right on schedule. In the past ten years Gary and his team at Broken Bay Constructions have carried out a number of building and repair projects and I have always found their work to be of a very high standard and competitively priced. The range of work has varied – including a new house constructed in Newport at an approximate cost of $1.25m and a major refurbishment of a large waterfront house at Clareville with a value in excess of $2m. Gary and his team at Broken Bay Constructions were all extremely professional, personable and importantly – respectful. Our renovation in late 2009 included demolition of 4 rooms including our kitchen to create an open plan kitchen & family room, which has become the focal point for our lifestyle. For four years, Broken Bay Constructions have been the go-to team for us in Bayview. Gary has completed several small projects and four major ones at our home: a study/kitchenette renovation, a new roof over an existing deck, a major bathroom renovation and the removal and reconstruction of a second deck. Access to our home is steep and its older construction sometimes offers surprising challenges. Fortunately, Gary and the team are perfectionists (did I say obsessive?) with amazing attention to detail. Add to that their unrelenting good humour and you have the perfect combination for home renovations that are painless and built to last.

When we sought to undertake extensive remedial work to our home we approached several contractors but failed to find a match before Broken Bay Construction was recommended by a friend and neighbour.

Gary and his team took on our job which due to access constraints, most others simply would not entertain. His experience showed in that he was able to understand the constraints of the job and arrive at creative and practical access solutions, allowing safe and efficient work to take place.

All work is of an exceptional standard and incorporates many of Gary’s suggestions as to increasing longevity, whilst sensitively fitting in with the period features of the home.

Throughout the process, all personnel were courteous and tidy, and Gary never skipped a beat in terms of following up on our comments and questions.

Gary Dixon of Broken Bay Constructions was recommended to me by several close friends for whom he had done extensive renovations to their homes in our area. Gary suggested an architect and we finally agreed on a set of plans early 2017.

I had no hesitation in asking Gary to quote on a new bathroom, bedrooms, cupboards, renewing the upstairs floorboards and other minor alterations. A big renovation including carpentry, tilers, electricians, plumbers, painters, and cabinet makers. Gary and Rob were the carpenters, and all other contractors were first class tradesmen, polite and well-mannered people.

We have continued to engage theses tradesmen for minor repairs and maintenance to this day.

This work was completed on time early 2018. Gary arranged for the signing off and compliance of consulting engineers, environmental and geographical consultants, and the Northern Beaches Council, making it easy for us.

Mid 2018 we decided to extend the roof over our veranda/patio facing the street, Hudson Parade. Again, we requested a quote from Broken Bay Constructions and work commenced August 2018 and completed late September 2018.The new roof tiles were matched and swapped with the old tarnished with age tiles to blend in with the existing roof and looking from the street it would appear the new roof was part of the original build(1984?).

Late 2020 we decided on another major renovation to replace our old ensuite in the main bedroom. The bathroom, cupboards, doors, and other items were demolished and completely re-built. Again, Broken Bay’s contractors were first class. The effect, in our opinion, was stunning.

Early October this year Gary was again contracted, relining woodwork and door frames in our boatshed. A few days later, the finish is again stunning.

Gary is hard working, reliable, completely honest, and trustworthy (he had the keys of our house for months) and I have no hesitation in recommending Broken Bay Constructions and its small team to carry out any minor or major build or renovation for one’s home.

My wife and I purchased a home that needed upgrading in the laundry, main bathroom and ensuite. We were not in a position to move out while these works were carried out. Gary suggested the laundry and guest toilet and vanity be done first and then move to the main bathroom finishing with the ensuite. This ensured we were never without a shower and toilet. Throughout the whole process, Gary made sure that any inconvenience was manageable. He showed an ability to adapt to any problems and always consulted with me if he thought there was a better way of either doing something or achieving a better result. His workmanship and approach was second to none. In the last few days before completion, it was discovered that my garage had severe termite damage and the only thing not touched were the roof trusses. Without hesitation, Gary managed to put his next job on hold and virtually rebuilt the garage.

I have no hesitation in recommending Gary to any potential client and have done so for both my son and a neighbour. Both engaged Gary and both speak highly of him and his workmanship.
